Nuat Thai®
Nuat Thai® "The Practical Expression of Loving Kindness" can be traced in Thailand back to the Buddha's personal friend and physician, Jivaka, aka Shivago Komalaboat.
Traditional Thai Medical Massage is unique and a profoundly complete combination of Massage, Trigger Points, Assisted Yoga Postures, Stretching, and Direct application of Healing Grace from the Lineage, Thai Massage is done on a mat on the floor through lose comfortable clothes. After a blessing ceremony, gentle full palm pressing and rocking movements are traced down lines on the body bringing a harmonious state of being, removing deep imbalances and tensions, and compassionately lulls one into high states of health and consciousness. It is especially well suited to athletic men who have not been deeply impressed with finger massage. Thai mat massage will have you on your back three times, on each side, on your tummy, and seated, allowing for greater access to all parts of the body and invites the addition of Assisted Yoga Postures and the unique opportunity to massage in dynamic movement patterns. The Thai's do these treatments in one to three hours sessions! I found my hips and low back received therapy more deeply from this style than anything else massage-like before, leading to my finally being able to downhill ski again for the first time in 12 years after a serious pedestrian accident.
Deep, yet very appropriate no matter what your size, profoundly nurturing and very grounding.
Shivago is noted for having distilling the Indian Ayurvedic Medicine based on 88,000 Chakras and 350,000 Prana Nadis and their corresponding Special Points into a workable system focusing on a few key Chakras, lines, and points. Added to this was the inspiration of Atreya and the Medicine Buddha Vaidura, the patron Saint of Tibetan Medicine. All this was spread to the Thai Sangha, the devoted spiritual community of Buddhist monks and nuns. They found the medicine healing and restorative. The monks and nuns cherished the teachings of Shivago which came to be known as Traditional Thai Medical Massage, called "nuat phan boran thai" which means "the old way of healing with the hands."
This tradition has flourished and been preserved by handing them down teacher to student in ceremony, meditation, and disciplined practice.
Nuat Thai®, the modern expression of this ancient healing discipline, has been translated and creatively adapted to the needs of the modern west By Anthony B. James, the first U.S Instructor to receive recognition for Nuat Thai (R). In 1986, Dr. James became the second non-ethnic Thai to be initiated into a direct lineage after receiving many years teachings in virtually all remaining lineages from Thailand's foremost Masters. He was my main teacher and initiated me 1996. I additionally hold initiations in all four lineages of Tibetan Buddhism including the Medicine Buddha.
